SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2023

1) A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF 2022 (Autumn Period)

A FEW WORDS OF RESPECT MARKING A

TRIBUTE TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH 11

POEM – THE LATE QUEEN – ‘MOTHER OF THE REALM’ – 21/04/1926 to 8/09/2022

Our beloved Sovereign has departed now,

Mother of our Nation as we knew her best,

We grieve her sad loss and mutely bow,

To honour her memory as she’s laid to rest.

She was to her Kingdom a beacon of hope,

In the face of adversity, stood steadfast and strong.

It was her words of positivity that helped us to cope,

During crisis, pandemic and things that went wrong.

She met 15 prime ministers over 70 years,

Showing politeness and courtesy, never to offend,

Serving her people with a great sense of cheer,

Devoted to duty, she was selfless to the end,

She stood for all that is moral and right,

Spanning 2 centuries of her glorious reign,

She was to the Commonwealth a guiding light,

But They’ll never see the likes of Her Majesty again.

Her global mourning, the most solemn lament,

Draws four billion people to pray and sing,

As we celebrate an icon’s life well spent,

It’s time to say "Thank you M’am for everything."

God Bless You Always

A Tribute to Queen Elizabeth 11

By Robin Moore

She was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6/02/1952 until her death in 2022, the year of her Platinum Jubilee. During her lifetime, she was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states, diminishing to 15 at the time of her death.

2) LAST YEAR’S FUNDRAISING FOR REGIONAL CHARITIES

The Cornish Pilgrimage Supporting Cornwall Hospice Care raised £1541.99 for the charity in 2022.

An enduring Cornish Pilgrimage walk followed by a successful fundraising evening at Carharrack Club has ensured a presentation of another four-figure sum to Cornwall Hospice Care. Largely thanks to members of Carharrack club who generously sponsored and raised £800, I was easily able to reach my target.

The Fox and Hounds at Comford and other places along the pilgrimage route were kind and generous too: sometimes putting me up after a gruelling day or sponsoring my efforts. You can view my daily blog for this expedition at Robin Moore’s Walking For Charity On Facebook. A 10-day pilgrimage which includes the 10-mile Gwennap section is usually walked in September. Shorter 6- mile walks such as the St Piran’s Trail and the Gwennap Pilgrimage are promoted as a celebration of Spring and also completed in aid of CHC.

NEW CORNISH PILGRIMAGE GUIDE

An updated guide will be available soon and there is a Cornish Pilgrimage website which provides GPX maps of the route. We are also working on a significantly improved route (mostly off road) around the Launceston Region and will be adding high quality maps and extensive information about the entire pilgrimage. This should be ready by the Autumn: while the project was initially founded as a walk between the 2 hospices, it now zigzags the entire kingdom of Cornwall from top to bottom.

The present route follows part of the National Cycle Route and there are enough coastal lanes and mineral trails to adapt the pilgrimage to cycling if that is a preference.

WALKING THE OUNDLE PILGRIMAGE FOR SUE RYDER THORPE HALL

Last Summer’s 20- mile walk helped raise awareness for the charity and £500 on the day. We repeat the walk each Farmers Market Saturday in August and have alternative day routes and a cycle trail. This Summer’s walk will take place on Saturday 12th August from 9am: see Summer Newsletter for updates about this event. A new edition of the Oundle Pilgrimage Guide will be published on Amazon in July 2023 and will be available at EBOOKS on this website. The book will offer all routes within the project and the new Pilgrim Passport will also be available to download. Both will cost only £1.

4) THE SUSAN HARVEY FEAST DAY WALK

In Support of SUNRISE APPEAL –

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Clinical Oncology

And Cancer Care.

We are planning a memorial walk for Susan who was a much-loved local lady and stalwart of St Day Feast. Although she is sadly missed her spirit will always be with us here in St Day, the community she loved with all her heart.

The 5-mile walk will take place on Sunday 18th June from The Star Inn, Vogue (meet in the carpark at 11am). There is a £10 registration fee to do the walk which will be donated to Susan’s chosen charity and a justgiving page for anyone who wishes to donate to these worthy causes.

Justgiving pages will be available at Social media sites and on posters or use the link below:

https://www.justgiving.com/rcht

The Saint Day Feast Walk booklet is available at St Day Post Office and the Star Inn.

We welcome any one wishing to help with fundraising and invite the public to join us on the 5-mile St Day Feast Walk

I am also hoping to walk The Grand Union Canal Tow path from London to Birmingham at some stage next month in support of Susan’s charity.

THANK YOU

Your support is invaluable – please help us in this important quest to preserve our local charities.

The National British Libraries and some War Museums overseas each hold a copy of this book which I donated for the Centenary of WW1.

b) NEW WALKING GUIDE – GWENNAP WALKS – £4.99

Just out! (electronic version available from my website for £1 and you can print these yourself to get a hard copy). The new guide follows circular routes in and around the Gwennap Region: mostly starting and finishing from the Fox & Hounds, Comford where the book will be on sale along with works of art, postcards and other literature.

c) THE PORTUGUESE COAST CAMINO – £4.99

Available now (very limited edition!) – best chance of obtaining this is from my EBOOKS Section on the website.

Like the others it’s just £1 and you can download and staple-bind for a hard copy if required.

A selection of postcards and latest artwork is now available in the Gwennap Region, St Ives and other seaside locations.

CURTESY NOTICE

Please do not steal any hard copies as they are very limited (for genuine interest and support), as the printing costs are funded by myself. I am presently trying to manage all of this on a very small pension and part time job. I have ‘lost’ a lot of copies and will no longer be able to sponsor/fund future charity events. Fresh air maybe a luxury these days but it doesn’t fund any of my activities – that comes from serious dedication, hard work and £60,000 of my own income over a 30-year period.
