Anniversary year Supporting Cornwall Hospice Care (25 years of walking for the cause and still counting the miles!)

Please share my newsletter, and if possible sponsor £1 per walk this year, as every little bit will make a difference!

CHARITY WALKS 2025 - in addition to marking my 25th year of walking for Cornwall Hospice Care, this is also the Hospice’s 45th Anniversary.

Following a break for sight-saving eye surgery in June, I hope to continue fundraising for the Cornish Charity up until the next St Piran’s Day celebration in 2026. The effort involves a substantial walk each day, and in particular, tackling larger expeditions here and overseas.

I have set up a justgiving page at the bottom of this newsletter. Please try and help the Hospices out at this very difficult time whenever you feel you can.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Promote the Cornish Pilgrimage as a potential new National Route, established in honour of Cornwall Hospice Care, and as a tribute to the nuns who dedicated their lives to the charity. We have made a short film about our aims which will be released on YouTube around the time of the Next Cornish Pilgrimage Walk. Also, the Hospice will publish a press release during June which will further cover our objectives.

  1. One plan is to invite members of the public to walk a chosen section with me each day of the pilgrimage which should begin around mid September. There are 9 sections, so you can take your pick! Dates for this event will be posted on the website at the end of August, along with the latest version of the Pilgrimage Route.

  1. We will be looking for support from local pubs to raise funds by hosting a community event/charity auction or generally help/contribute. Collection boxes can be delivered by the hospice. Also, we want to make an effort to support our local pubs and social hubs too, so please come along and join in -

the more the merrier!

INTERNATIONAL WALKS

The 1st Expedition - A Pilgrimage to Santiago was completed during March. My walk followed a route along the North Coast of Spain via Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia. Supporting the Cornish Hospices and Prostate Cancer (March the March), I walked every day in March (a minimum of 20km per day!), also completing pilgrimages to Muxia, ‘A Costa da Mort’ ; Finisterre, ‘The End of the World’ and The Camino Ingles, covering around 1,000 Km in total for the month.

Visit Robin Moore’s Walking For Charity on Facebook for wider reading of my day-to-day diaries.

2nd Overseas Expedition - To be arranged for Autumn.

I am still hoping, and planning to do a Pilgrimage to Rome, however because it is closer to home, it can be attempted at some stage next year between Spring and Autumn.

So for now, I’m looking for some help from my overseas friends to set up a walk in Australia. This will be considered as a Winter project for Cornwall Hospice Care but can potentially be adapted to benefit a regional charity in Australia too.

Having already walked from Queensland to Coogee Bay in Sydney, this endeavour promises to be a continuation of the trek through New South Wales and Victoria.

ROUTE

Option 1 may incorporate either the Princess Highway (coast road), from Sydney to Melbourne (900km); or The Great South Coast Walk which is a 660 km trail that runs from Bundeena, New South Wales to Mallacoota, Victoria. It's Australia's longest coastal walk.

Features:

Length: 660 km

Route: Starts in Bundeena, New South Wales and ends in Mallacoota, Victoria.

Option 2 - Combination of coast and

The Bibbulmun Track which is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast, winding through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia.

In addition to helping our Cornish Hospices, I will look at raising funds for a cancer-related charity in one of these regions of Australia.

LOCAL WALKS

This has been paused for now due to lack of interest, though I still venture out on a Sunday. If you fancy a short walk, I suggest you contact me on Facebook. I usually leave around 11am and stop for a carvery lunch after or near completion of the journey. If attending, Please make a £1 donation to the CHC Collection jar.

THE GWENNAP PILGRIMAGE

We will be doing this walk in Mid-October (date to be decided).

This 10-mile section of the Cornish Pilgrimage takes in the beautiful Gwennap Region, usually starting at the Coppice Car Park. However, many of us will begin the walk from St Piran’s Church in Carharrack.

Venue: 11am Start from the Coppice.

Carvery lunch after - between 2-3pm or when walk is complete.

THE ST DAY FEAST WALK

- Sunday 29th June

Venue: The Star Inn - 11am.

Distance: 6 miles

2.5 hours (break included at Scorrier)

Lunch is available between 12 - 2.30pm (due to high demand those requiring carvery lunch at the Star Inn will need to order in advance).

Otherwise, it may be possible to purchase food from the St Day Inn.

Starting at the Star Inn on the Sunday before Feast Day, the 6-mile route takes in the St Day Rugby Field, Portreath Tramroad from Poldice Cottage and Scorrier where we take a half hour break at The Plume and Feathers Inn.

On return, we backtrack along the Tramroad as far as the St Day Trail. After crossing the Scorrier Road to join this section, we follow a woodland track back downhill to Pink Moors; from here we return to the Star Inn.

We will post updates on Facebook about the more extensive walks (Robin Moore’s Walking For Charity and at Robin Moore’s Walks). And also on the Cornwall Hospice Care Events page. So, check a month before each walk to confirm meeting times, dates and venues.

Cornish Pilgrimage Certificates may also be available for an additional cost of £5. Local postcard paintings and booklet guides about these walks and global expeditions are available at The Star Inn and some of the venues listed above.

See website below for EBOOKS and more information. Cornish Pilgrimage Walking Guides and Passports can also be downloaded here.

WALKING THE CORNISH PILGRIMAGE

- An Ancient and Modern Cornish Pilgrimage.

In addition to the Gwennap Pilgrimage, we will be walking each section of this 200-mile Discovery Trail over the course of a few weekends throughout the Summer months.

I will then traverse it all in September as a complete charity walk.

We will invite members of the public to join us on any chosen one of the legs which offers a great opportunity to experience this amazing journey. You can also check out the most up-to-date version of the Cornish Pilgrimage route at my website:

UK WALKS FOR CORNWALL HOSPICE CARE

During the year, I’d like to walk some additional way-marked trails. Having trekked around Great Britain and Ireland many years ago when there weren’t so many designated foot paths and cycle trails, I feel compelled to check out some of the modernised routes now open to the public.

The Severn Way and the Kings Way are walks that I have scheduled at some stage this year.

Throughout each walk, I will publish a daily diary to highlight my progress and offer the public an opportunity to support Cornwall Hospice Care via my justgiving page at the bottom of the newsletter.

Also, I will be using QR Codes for online contributions and sponsor forms which will be distributed at various locations too. However, during this difficult time of recession, I will only ask for £1 contributions per sponsor.

At the end of the day - Every little bit helps especially as the Government has cut our funding leaving the hospices in a precarious situation which we will need to remedy. I will endeavour to do my bit to try and address the shortfall.

Please support my efforts!

RECENT SPRING EVENT

WALKING THE WIGHT

May - Isle of Wight Walk with ‘Charlie Chaplin’ (Barmy Army friend, Colin Bloomfield) completed on 11th May.

The Isle of Wight is home to my mother’s side of the family and I decided it was time to do a walk in honour of the Island’s Mountbatten Hospice.

Entering as ‘Team Charlie, Walkers Nos. 1 and 2’, along with over 8,000 other participants, we took part in Walk the Wight 2025 on Sunday 11th May. Taking around 8 hours to complete the 26-mile course, the interesting journey runs from Bembridge to the Needles. The initial stage exposes walkers to historic monuments and plaques as it passes the island’s old castle. There are ancient forests to encounter, numerous farm tracks and a steep, scenic last phase affording some outstanding panoramic views of the Solent.

Colin who is a co -organiser of the event, is always looking at new ideas and ways to encourage people to come and ‘Walk the Wight’. It’s always held in May when the weather is usually good and is a worthy challenge for all dedicated ramblers.

On completion each walker is given a medal for their effort and a voucher for a free tea.

There is a free bus service laid on to transport participants to the Start and back from the Finish to their required locations on the island.

FUNDRAISING

Any one from Cornwall, can if they wish, make a contribution for my overall efforts this year at my CHC Page.

This will remain open all year for my 25th anniversary marking thousands of miles walked for the Cornish Hospices.
